Hello, my name is Paul Best and welcome to my web site. I have been a resident of the city of Charlottesville for the past eleven years. I am very fortunate to have the support of my wonderful fiancée Kimberly Simmons a nurse and her son Zackary who graduated from Charlottesville High School and is currently on the Dean’s list at V.C.U. I graduated from Fluvanna County High School with honors and studied guitar at Berklee College of Music. I have received a Certificate in Administration of Justice and an A.A.S Degree Cum Laude in Police Science from Piedmont Community College. I have faithfully dedicated over fifteen years of service to our Community and the Charlottesville Police Department. I have worked as a Reserve Deputy, Community Service Officer, Patrol Officer, an Investigation Bureau Detective, and in my current position as a state sworn Detective with the multi-jurisdictional Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement Task Force. more...

Over the past fifteen years I have gained a vast amount of training and experience working with Federal, State and Local law enforcement. I have received the rank of Master Police Officer and have taken on additional responsibilities throughout my career. I am currently a (DCJS) Certified General Instructor, a Taser Instructor, a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Investigations Training Officer, Surveillance Equipment Engineering Technician, Major Case Agent, Riot Squad Team Member, Virginia Criminal Information Network Operator, Court Certified Narcotics Expert, guest speaker at UVA’S Substance Abuse Semester Course, appointed member of the Chief’s Advisory Board, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

I have training and experience in case management, conspiracy investigations, informant management, informant fund management, operational planning, tactical planning, surveillance experience, community policing, bias-based policing, advanced search and seizure, gang investigations and both general and narcotics investigations.

I have been a board member with the Charlottesville Police Officer’s Association, and currently with the Charlottesville Cops and Kids Fund. Over the years I have volunteered with several organizations such as the Lake Monticello Water Safety Patrol and You've Got a Friend Day. I have chaperoned with the Shop with a Cop holiday charity and Hoop it Up by taking underprivileged children Holiday shopping and to UVA Basketball games. As a Charlottesville Cops and Kids Fund Board Member I voted yes to providing breakfast to the children of the West Heaven neighborhood and to a $500.00 scholarship award per semester for Charlottesville resident Alicia Gear.

I would love the opportunity to serve the community as your next Sheriff by creating healthier neighborhoods, improving the quality of life in Charlottesville and providing new programs at no extra cost.
